Week 4 – RSS – Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!
Welcome to Week 4 of TechLearning 2008! All of us frequently complain about information overload, and the fact is, it’s only going to get worse! Therefore it’s time to start learning about tools and services that will help you to streamline how you consume information. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) has been around for a while now, but not that many people are taking full advantage of what it offers. This week, you’ll be tasked with setting up an account on Google Reader and exploring a lot of the benefits of this technology. Visit the 23 Things page to get started with Week 4’s activities!

Week 2 – Blogging!
Welcome to week two of TechLearning 2008! This week’s goal is to establish your own blog (if you don’t already have one
)! I encourage you to check out both Blogger.com and Wordpress.com. Both are excellent platforms offering their own set of unique features. This activity will encompass Things 3 and 4. Next week you’ll be asked to formally use your blog to keep everyone up-to-date on your progress with each week’s objectives. If you need help, don’t hesitate to ask your fellow participants!

TechLearning 2008 Launch! Week 1
Today is the day! TechLearning 2008 is live and will run through August 15! It’s still not to late to sign up, just see Andy and I’ll get you added to the list!
This week’s activities are very light weight and will give you an overview of the objectives of our program as well as insight into developing lifelong learning as a habit! If you have questions or comments along the way, I encourage you to enter them as comments to each week’s blog post (like this one).
Also, the tracking log is live in Andy’s inbox on Netfiles Netfiles at the following location: netfiles\admin\library\TechLearning. Each participant has their own sheet within the spreadsheet, just look for your name in the tabs at the bottom of the screen. This is where you’ll go each week to record completion of each “thing” as well as provide a link to your own blog post about what you’ve learned.
Also, at the end of this week on Friday, June 27, the TechTeam will be hosting Technology Open House 2008, where we’ll give staff an overview of new and emerging websites and services, cool gadgets, the latest game consoles, etc. All of which is geared toward helping staff keep up with the latest and greatest as well as better understand where a lot of our users are. It will be on Level B2 and the BCC from 2pm – 4pm.
Good luck this week!

We held our interest meeting today and so far have 13 confirmed participants. I also had others email me that they too are interested but were going to be out on vacation today. So far so good! We’ll be finalizing our content pages in the next couple of weeks and will also remind people next week about signing up. It’s going to be a fun summer!
